Around the world, projects are trialling green hydrogen fuel cells paired with solar-charged batteries, and exploring related pathways such as the conversion of iron for hydrogen-based reduction and storage. REC 2 is mapping this landscape closely as we shape our own H₂ Hybrid roadmap.
In motorsport, H₂ Hybrid powertrains combine hydrogen combustion with hybrid electric recovery to achieve performance parity with conventional engines while eliminating carbon emissions. REC 2 is planning to partner with racing teams and series organisers to develop H₂ Hybrid powertrain architectures — using competition as a real-world durability testbed for technology destined for commercial vehicles and vessels.
For heavy industry and maritime, H₂ Hybrid Systems are envisioned as a bridge solution: plants and vessels operating on hydrogen when production is available and switching seamlessly to battery-backed power during supply interruptions. REC 2 intends to provide the integration software, project finance, and carbon credit origination across the full H₂ Hybrid value chain as this technology matures.
