Overview
Biochips integrate biological molecules with microelectronic substrates to create miniaturised platforms for diagnostics, drug discovery and organ modelling. REC 2's primary focus in this vertical is organ-on-chip systems — microfluidic devices that replicate the function of human organs and reduce reliance on animal testing in pharmaceutical development.
Our particular interest is the bladder: bladder disease research is comparatively underserved by existing organ-on-chip platforms, and we see a genuine gap for a dedicated model. REC 2 is looking for research and technology partners to develop organ-on-chip solutions specifically for bladder disease, rather than claiming to have built this capability ourselves.
From a defence perspective, biochips are also relevant for field-deployable diagnostics and chemical and biological threat detection. REC 2's biochip investments are structured to serve both civilian healthcare and defence readiness markets, with organ-on-chip work as the anchor programme.
